The best day

I have had the best day today.

Does that sound weird coming from me?  Well, it shouldn't. I promise you, even cancer patients have good days.

We went into this day not knowing what the outcome would be.  Would we find out the cancer had spread to my lymph nodes?  Would we find out it's aggressive, and treatment would be hard?

We didn't get any clear answers except that they feel the cancer has been found early and that it is not aggressive.  Out of all the news we could have gotten...that was the best news we could have got.  Samples of the tissue have been sent to Mayo clinic for further evaluation, and we have an appointment to meet with the surgeon on Wednesday to discuss surgery and course of treatment.

We do have a VERY BIG decision ahead of us, because in terms of treatment, even if a lumpectomy and chemo are sufficient to treat this, a mastectomy is still an option we can elect to choose as basically a future preventative method.  They said it is a good possibility Mayo's advice will be to do the mastectomy since this is the second tumor (yes second!  I had the first one removed when Kinsey was just 7 weeks old, but it ended up being benign...thank goodness!!!) in less than 8 years, but we still need to be thinking about what we feel is best for me long term.

While that may seem like a lot to digest, I've felt an incredible sense of peace today.  But how could I not with all you prayer warriors on my side?!  He's carrying me right now, holding my hand...the same way I carry and hold my children when they are sick.

Kristin came over to watch Breanna while Chris took me to my appointment, and brought me the loveliest Orchard.  Please God, don't let me kill it.  I don't have a green thumb at all.  Afterwards she took me to get a manicure (oh my goodness...the hand and arm massage was SO relaxing), and we went shopping. What more could a girl ask for?!!!  SERIOUSLY!!!

I think everyone in the Shoe Show might have thought we were loony when I was trying on a pair of shoes and Kristin asked me if I was going to buy them. I responded, very seriously, "I think I'd better not and save my money since I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to buy some new boobs soon."

Kristin literally burst out laughing.  Then I did, and then we were both laughing.

VERY LOUDLY!

And people were staring.

But that's more than O.K.   It's so great to have friends who can laugh with you during hard times.

I'm a firm believer that laughter is the best medicine.  I bought a book when Breanna was at Riley's called 'Healing through Humor'.  It is my all time
FAVORITE book.

My neighbor came by to check in on how my appointment went, and brought us brownies, a homemade baked spaghetti that we could freeze and have at a later date, banana bread, and cucumbers.  Thank you Allie...that was so thoughtful of you!

We (me, my Chris, Breanna, Kristin, and her Chris) went out to dinner tonight at Applebee's, and our waitress accidentally spilled Kristin's sweet tea on Breanna.  That poor girl felt so bad.  The manager came out and personally apologized, and thanked us for being so kind about the situation.  We got a discount on our bill, plus five
FREE kids meal coupons for future visits.   How awesome is that?!

Way to take one for the team baby girl. HA,HA

All kidding aside, I felt that was more than generous of the manager to give us that many free coupons.

We ended the day laughing about our favorite funny movie quotes.  There may or may not have been a few more crude 'boob' jokes thrown in the mix too.  I'm taking a claim of innocence on that though. :)

Thank you all for your continued prayer and support.  Because of you all, the season of our lives seems a little more bearable.   I would love to thank each and every one of you personally.  I have read every email, text, etc that we have received over the past few days...thank you from the bottom of my heart.  You are all blessings to my life.

If something good happened in your day today, please, feel free to comment about it.  Let's join together and  praise God for the wonderful things each and every one of us have in our lives.

I want to leave you all with this scripture:  Who you are and who you will become, only Jesus knows.  He says, "To him who overcomes, I will give...a white stone with a new name written on it, known only to him who receives it." -Revelation 2:17
